Orchid of the day: Dyakia hendersoniana

Dyakia hendersoniana

Dyakia hendersoniana, it a miniature-sized warm loving orchid which originates from the island of Borneo in South East Asia. This orchid wasn’t seen much in cultivation until a couple of years ago when it appeared on sale everywhere.  We obtained this orchid as a seedling in December last year and we are fortunate to experience its first blooms this year.

A) Two flower stems on July 7th.

B) It took at least five months before these flower stems were fully developed.

C) Fourteen flowers in bloom by July 28.

D) Out in the sun, July 30th.

E) All flowers in full bloom by August 3rd this year.

We will have to wait until next year for another batch of flowers because all of the blooms have wilted away today.

Until my next post, have a great week everyone.
