Angraecum sesquipedale |
The Angraecum sesquipedale is one of our favourite orchids. In the past years, this orchid has consistently produced two beautiful flowers but this time around, we are blessed with a third bloom. I have posted about this orchid at least three times, (Jan 27, 2014, Feb 21, 2015 and Jan 31, 2016). I really love Angraecum sesquipedale because of its unique look and the fact that in nature, only a particular night moth can pollinate it, the Xanthopan morganii.
A) Late December, we noticed three flower buds developing. |
B) The flower buds clearly visible at the top left. |
C) Close up of the flower buds. |
D) One of the flowers beginning to open in January 2017. |
E) Progression of the second flower opening. Beautiful difference in colour between the first flower to the next. |
F) All three flowers in bloom today, February 5th, 2017. The spurs were close to 30 cm long. |
G) The length of the petal, end to end is 16 cm. The first flower is showing some browning on the tips now. |
H) The entire specimen today. |
Our beauty for the day. I hope you have enjoyed viewing our Angraecum sesquipedale. Until next post, have a great week fellow orchid lovers!
